Dinner in the Streets

The first-annual Salvation Army Dinner in the Streets was held in Avondale, the hottest, most thriving neighborhood in Birmingham. Held in front of the Redeemer Church, this fundraising event brought hundreds of people from the community together to help the city’s most vulnerable- homeless men, women, and children as well as those who’ve sustained disasters. Live music, delicious food, and good friends provided an evening to remember. Mealfit was happy to be a part of this exciting event.

The outdoor event looked amazing thanks to one Caroline Clements, a Nashville-Murfreesboro based designer who created the perfect backdrop for this enchanting event. Mealfit placed a 65-yard long, 150-person Grazing table amidst the crowd, serving meals family style in groups of 10 people. Each food has its place on the table. The food tasted absolutely scrumptious and thanks to Mrs. Clements, looked equally amazing.

Attendees happily engaged in conversation as they discovered the new foods on the table. Many of the foods are non-traditional choices meant to serve as a conversation starter. Meals available on the Grazing Table at the fundraising event included:

• A Caesar Salad that consisted of made from scratch croutons and a homemade Caesar dressing.
• A Wonderful Tomato and mozzarella skewer that was drizzled with a balsamic Dressing that we also make from scratch in house.
• Butternut Squash Au Gratin
• Beautiful mix of smoked chicken with summer grilled vegetables
• Tea, Water and a ‘Mocktail’ called Summer Drink, made with fresh and frozen fruit and essential oil

The food received rave compliments from each person who attended the event as well as the Salvation Army staff at the dinner. We were pleased to have provided crowd-pleasing dishes and enjoy the abundance of fun that we had being a part of the dinner!

Salvation Army does great things for the community with the funds raised with the help of successful events like this one.  This is the first dinner on the streets, but there is little doubt another will be held in the future.
